My Leadership Style
In every project, my first instinct as a leader is to view all sides of the project. This includes the reason for the project or training, the people it serves, and the best ways to make the project or training successful.
In my current practicum, I find myself developing a supportive leadership role. I think for this particular project the leadership role leans toward the supportive role due to the subject matter. The training requires the assistance of mental health professionals to determine what subjects would be most helpful for the parents.
During this time, I am learning when to lead and when to pull back and allow others take the lead in the planning. During the first week of my practicum, I listened as my mentor and her team discuss plans on their next project. Then I viewed the website and mission statement.
My mentor and I met to discuss my plans based on the information I received from the meetings and organization website. I explained my suggestion about how we can begin to develop the training on the website to make training accessible for parents or youths who may not have access to the in-person training or other social media access such as Instagram.
As I review my leadership style, my weakness and strength is in my assertiveness in regards to impressing my ideas upon my team. It is my weakness because I often hesitate to express an opinion when it could be of the use. It is my strength because I am patient and I am willing to listen to all aspects before making a decision.
Because I do not work in an educational institution or organization, I find that my leadership role or style changes depending on the projects or trainings I maybe a part of designing.
