Technology Facilitator
Although innovation does not come from repeating the same process, innovation can appear while doing the process repetitively. Like the inventor of the jigsaw who was looking for a better way of sawing wood.
For technology facilitator, innovation comes from studying the process and searching for ways to improve or develop another effective way of communicating the same information with the use of technology. In the above image, I described how the facilitator works and who or what is helped by their actions.
The facilitators' job is to listen to their audience. In this case, the audience are administrators, teachers, and students. After which they will evaluate the process to see where improvements can be made. Then discuss or report their findings to the board. Once the facilitators receive approval on their ideas, they will be able to implement and adjust their strategy as need.
It is this combination that helps the facilitator bridge the divide between educational institution and the use of technology.

I really the idea that a real innovator is a listener. So often, I feel that schools implement technology for technology's sake.
ReplyDeleteI like your idea about making a report and going to the board, but have you considered that that different teachers at school might have different needs? In my experience, the solutions approved an imposed by the board do not necessarily benefit all teachers. I personally thing that the best thing the board can do is to give the technology facilitator and teachers the most freedom possible to implement what they need.
It's really insightful that you talked about the innovator as a listening. Like Stacy pointed out, often technology is done just for the sake of its newness without really deeply considering what problem you're trying to solve WITH the technology! It's about figuring out a better way to do something, not just changing something for the sake of changing it. Really, a needs assessment is one of the most important steps, it can give you a good framework from which to build out the change or technology.
